The Beast called Grief

Melissa Portelli

This collection of my poetry throughout the years focuses mainly on my personal experience of loss and the struggle to rebuild a life after the death of a loved one.

From the inferno brought about after my brother’s cold-blooded murder when he was only 27 years old,

to the  life-saving whirlwind experience of songwriting and performing as the front-woman of acoustic duo Chasing Pandora whilst adapting to the drastically life-changing motherhood, this collection of poetry delves into melancholic moments and draws inspiration from the moments of desperation, hopelessness and grief to the beauty of salvation through words that proved to be catharthic.

This collection explores the grace that has branched out of pain, the life lessons of motherhood while dealing with the vicious circle of anxiety and grief.

My plan is to work on a book with the full poems from this collection in the coming year. So I hope to share that with you soon!

This book of poetry is in memory of my dear brother Stephen Portelli who left this world on the 9th of November,2001 and in loving memory of my best friend and mentor who picked me up from the darkest of places in my heart and made every minute count, Steve Brown who passed away on the 24th of December,2017.

So tremendously missed.
